2010 GET TOGETHER A HUGE SUCCESS

A large contingent of people from all over Victoria and interstate travelled to Gippsland to attend the annual Mountain Cattlemens  “Get Together" last weekend.
More than 4000 people braved the hot conditions to attend the annual function which this year was held  at the Howson’s property,  Wombat Crossing Boisdale.  Despite the heat, the program went on as planned.
Eleven State Members of Parliament attended.  Leader of the National Party and Coalition Shadow Minister for Bushfire Recovery, Peter Ryan announced, to loud applause, that if elected, the Opposition would put cattle back into the Alpine National Park. (see newsletter from Philip Davis )
A poll which ran in the Weekly Times the following week   strongly supporting that plan (  92% in  favour the return of cattle)
At the official ceremony at the function President of the MCAV Doug Treasure thanked Mr Ryan for his announcement and told the crowd the MCAV intend staying for the long haul.
“We are determined to protect our heritage and convince the public of the management value of grazing.
Over the weekend the MCAV released a paper named “The Links between grazing and fuel reduction in the grazing zones of the High Country”.

This paper rebuts some scientists views on grazing and will be posted on the MCAV website soon.
